Notice of Race

The Organizing Authority (OA) will be Corfu Sailing Club (https://www.corfusailing.gr/en) with the support of the Hellenic Sailing Federation (HSF).

The venue will be the city of Corfu, Greece.

The event has applied for World Sailing Grade 3.
This grading is subject to review by the WS Match Race Rankings Sub Committee. The event may be re-graded when there is clear reason to do so.

• Race office opens from October 6th 2022.
• Registration & Crew weighting from October 6th 2022, 10:00 to 17:00 & October 7th 2022, 09:00 to 10:00.
• Practice, after reservation with the OA, October 6th 2022, from 10:00 to 17:00. Booking is mandatory.
• First briefing on October 7th 2022 at 10:00.
• First meeting with umpires following the first briefing on October 7th 2022.
• Racing days from October 7thto October 9th 2022.
• Time of first race each day will be announced, except on October 7th 2022 will be at 12:00.
• The latest time for an attention signal on the last day of racing will be approximately 16:30.
• Prize giving on October 9th 2022, as soon as possible after racing.

Unless excused by the organizing authority, attendance to the following is mandatory:

• The first briefing and meeting with Umpires, for skippers.
• Daily briefing, for skippers.
• Photo shoots with the whole team in team clothing after weighing in.
• The prize giving for skippers and crews.

• 10 skippers will be invited in this event. Only skippers invited by the OA will be eligible to enter this event. A skipper may request an invitation by completing the attached application form and sending it to the OA no later than Wednesday, August 31st 2022.
• If there are more than 10 applications, the applications will be accepted on the basis of their latest, available on August 31st 2022, Open Match Race ranking list as published by World Sailing. If there are applicants that are not ranked, there will be a draw.
• The OA reserves the right to issue up to two (2) invitations that are exempt from the provisions of NoR 5.2.
• The registered skipper shall helm the boat at all times while racing, except in an emergency or as otherwise allowed by the OA.
• To remain eligible, a skipper shall confirm acceptance of the invitation in writing or by e-mail, to be received by the OA by the date specified in the letter of invitation.
• All competitors shall meet the eligibility requirements of WS regulation 19.2.
• All competitors shall obtain a WS Sailor ID by registering online at http://sailing.org/sailors/profile.php. Skippers shall inform the OA of their WS Sailor ID at registration.

• Entering
  The teams shall be entered on completion of registration & crew weighting and the payment of all fees and deposits. All payments shall be made by money transfer within the deadline indicated in the invitation letter, except the damage deposit. Details of the bank account will be provided with the invitation letter.
• EntryFee
  A non-refundable entry fee of 350 Euro shall accompany the acceptance of invitation for this to be valid, and should be deposited no later than the date specified in the letter of invitation. The entry fee will be refunded only in case of cancellation of the event due to COVID-19 or other circumstances on the responsibility of the OA.
• Withdrawal
  When a skipper accepts an invitation and later withdraws within two months of the event or leaves the event before the end without written approval from the OA, a zero score may be applied to their Ranking points for that event by World Sailing. (World Sailing Regulation 27.2).
• Damage deposit
  a) An initial damage deposit of €500 shall be paid at registration either in cash or by credit card and in local currency.
  b) In the event of a deduction from the damage deposit, it is required the deposit to be restored to its original amount before the team be permitted to continue in the event.
  c) Any remaining deposit at the conclusion of racing will be refunded immediately after the event.
  d) Sailing instructions will include a damage pricing list.
• Insurance
  All competitors are required to have adequate third-party insurance.

• The event will be governed by the rules as defined in the RRS, including Appendix C.
• The rules for the handling of boats will apply and will also apply to any practice sailing and sponsor races. Class rules will not apply.
• Any prescriptions of the national authority that will apply shall be posted on the official notice board.
• Major Alteration to the RRS
  (a) Delete RRS 40.2 and replace with: “Rule 40.1 applies to all boats when afloat”.
  (b) RRS C8.6 will be changed in the sailing instructions.
• Protocols relating to COVID-19 may be published at any time and will state if they have the status of a rule.

• The event will be sailed in Platu 25 class type boats.
• 4 boats will be provided.
• The following sails will be provided for each boat: Mainsail, Jib and Spinnaker.
• Boats will be allocated by draw, either daily or for each round as decided by the Race Committee.

• The number of crew (including the skipper) shall be 4 or 5. The number of crew shall be announced latest with the acceptance of entry. Any missing announcement for number of crew will be interpreted as 4 incl. skipper. All registered crew shall sail all races.
• The total weight of the crew, including the skipper, dressed in at least shorts and shirts shall not exceed 350kg, determined at the time of registration or such time as required by the RC.
• Crew weight may be checked during the regatta. At any re-weighing the total weight limit is increased by 10 kg. Any crew weighing in excess of this increased limit shall not be penalized, but they shall reduce their weight to the increased weight limit before racing again.
• When a registered skipper is unable to continue in the event, the OA may authorize an original crew member to substitute.
• When a registered crew member is unable to continue in the event the OA may authorize a substitute, a temporary substitute or other adjustment.

• Skippers will be seeded into a round robin or divided into two groups based on seeding in World Sailing ranking list 10 days prior to the event.
• The event will consist of the following stages:
  Stage 1 – A full Round Robin or Round Robin divided in groups
  Stage 2 – Semifinals
  Stage 3 – King of the castle
  Stage 4 – Final and petit final
• The RC may change the format, terminate any stage or the event when, in its opinion, it is impractical to attempt to hold the remainder of matches under the existing conditions or in the remaining time scheduled. Early stages may be terminated in favor of later stages.

• The course will be windward/leeward with starboard roundings, finishing downwind.
• The intended course area will be in close proximity to the shore, in the area around the old Fortress of the city of Corfu.

• As boats and equipment will be supplied by the Organizing Authority, WS regulation 20.4 applies. Each boat will be required to display advertising as supplied by the OA.
• The OA intends to supply the following equipment: Hulls, spars and sails. Advertising as supplied by the OA is to be displayed on this equipment.
• Competitors may be permitted to display advertising ashore at the venue, but this is subject to individual negotiation with the Organizing Authority.
• Boats shall not be permitted the right to protest for breaches of any rules regarding advertising (amends RRS 60.1).

• There will be no prize money.

• If required by the OA:
  (a) Television personnel and equipment (or dummies) supplied by the OA shall be carried on board while racing.
  (b) Competitors shall wear microphones supplied by the OA during racing and be available for interviews when advised by the OA or RC.
  (c) Registered skippers shall wear communications equipment supplied by the OA that will allow commentators to communicate with them whilst racing.
• Competitors shall not interfere with the normal working of the OA supplied media equipment.
• The OA shall have the right to use any images and sound recorded during the event free of any charge.

Each team is requested to provide team info (team name, crew list, short bio, 1 photo of the team on a boat and 1 head shot photo) no later than 21 days prior the event, by email to the OA.

All those taking part in the event do so at their own risk. The OA, its associates and appointees accept no responsibility for any loss, damage, injury or inconvenience incurred, howsoever caused.

• Entries will only be accepted from invited teams. If you wish to be invited, please register your request for an invitation as soon as possible with the OA by completing the invitation request form attached in the end of the Notice of Race and send it as soon as possible to the e-mail address stated in NoR 17.2
